Happy birthday to all of our Taurus and Gemini followers.
The Birthstone of May is...Emerald!
The beautiful green stone was once thought to promote fertility and good health. The Aztecs even called it the “Stone of the Earth”
Emerald only comes in shades of green and is found many places around the world, including Colombia, Zambia, Afghanistan, and Brazil. Usually, the deeper the green, the more desirable the stone is.
Emerald ranks an impressive 7.5 - 8 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. Meaning the stone is durable, but still somewhat prone to chipping or cracking. The vulnerability and versatility of the stone are two of the reasons that make it more expensive than others.
Emerald is amongst the rarest of precious stone, in fact, high-quality emeralds are often more rare in nature than diamonds.
At J&M Jewelry we pride ourselves on the fact that we only sell genuine diamonds and gemstones if you have any questions about purchasing loose stones, contact us here.
